I got soul, but I'm not a soldier..

I love shopping. My absolute favorite things to shop for aren’t new clothes nor shoes, (don’t get me wrong, my closest may at any moment burst with either) but my true passion, my mostest favorite things to purchase, are books and music. Yes, it’s true- I’m a total nerd. When I lived in Portland I would spend long afternoons lingering through the isles of Powell’s Books. Moment of silence please… Now that I live in Orange County I have two options: powellsbooks.com or our county libraries. I am not talking about ‘borrowing’ books from the library. I’m no good at that. I either take out far too many books to finish in the time allotted, or I really like the book I borrowed, and don’t want to give it back. In Orange County each of the libraries have used books for sale in a separate little adjoining store, provide by the local Camber of Commerce. These stores are nowhere near the size, nor the organization that one would find at Powell’s, but they are a pleasurable oasis in the mind numbing state one can occasionally find themselves in, in this plastic world we live in down here.

Powellsbooks.com doesn’t necessarily work for me either, as I really enjoy perusing through the store, and find that as enchanting as purchasing the books at times. Plus I need the instant gratification of having the book in-hand at the time of purchase. This is also why shopping on line for clothes doesn’t work for me. I’m over the item by the time I receive it…
So I anxiously anticipate my return visits home, complete with ample space in my suitcase to hold the new books I purchase during my stay.

Music is simply amazing. It’s such an authentic soul bearing way to communicate to others. I love it all. Less country. Try as I might (honestly which isn’t really at all) I just can’t find the level of music appreciation one must endure to enjoy it. CD’s are as great as books, but the even provide more of an instant gratification, as you can listen to the entire CD is far less the time than reading a novel, and I am able to listen to music at work. Reading books would get me fired. (Much like this blogging thing- if they ever catch on…)

So last night I went out and purchased a couple of CD’s that I have been waiting forever to get and just hadn’t allowed myself the time. I got both of
Bright Eyes newest CD’s (who’s name is rather misnomer, as front man Conor Oberst looks perpetually sad), Verve Remixed 3 (this is truly an amazing trilogy [so far] that every single person across the world should own), Verve Unmixed (I have nearly all of the songs on separate discs, but for the in-expensive price, who can pass it up?), Brazilian Girls (complete with a sample disc featuring Marc Broussard, Blue Merle and Courtney Jaye), Slightly Stoopid, Jack Johnson’s new one, Thievery Corporation, and The Killers (whom the guy sitting next to me is going to loathe in no time at all as I don’t think I will stop playing this disc for days…)

Now I love new music. I love to be introduced to some obscure, never heard of, fabulousness. Or someone that is wholly heard of, yet new to me… so do you have any suggestions?
BTW-
Pieman… I’ve heard of Britney Spears.
