The Golden Rule
I have always been one to stick up for those that are unable to stick up for themselves. No, not in philanthropic way – but those, whether they be cashiers, waiters, etc. when dealing with a particularly huge asshole, I will take it upon myself to point out to the A-hole in question that there is no need for them to behave in such ways. After all, these people working couldn’t do such things without possibly losing their jobs – and they can’t have that.
The flip side of this is when I am on the receiving end if this asinine behavior while at work. I truly attempt to always be a very professional, polite person. Last night the never-to-be-pleased woman sat before me complaining that everything on the plate in front of her wasn’t to her specific request (this after explaining in detail to the kitchen exactly how she-devil wanted it – while in the midst of being slammed [non-restaurant people, slammed = really F’n busy]). I looked at her while she picked apart (literally and figuratively) the plate in front of her and told me how unacceptable this was. As if I had intentionally ruined her meal. May I please remind you that you are not at a fine dining restaurant, you are at a Mexican food restaurant. When she continued to have this enormous attitude with me, I rolled my eyes while looking at her, and said “Whatever” and proceeded to grab her plate, hurrying back to the kitchen, whispering sweet nothings under breathe the entire way. Lord help me… she left happy.
On the way home I stopped by the market, got in line, and the cashier told the woman and man in line in front of me the total of there purchase (all the while they argued as to why she needed to buy the candles) the she-devil #2 put her hand in front of the poor cashiers face and said, “I’m not finished getting what I want.” So I took my liberated stance on the other side of the register, and reminded she-devil #2 that she didn’t need to have an attitude with the woman that was trying to assist her. She was shocked, and left in a huff.
The cashier thanked me when they left.
People just be nice - “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”.
