The Magic of Childhood

Top 5 Childhood Memories
Okay… maybe not the ‘top’… but 5 none-the-less
1. Driving to the Oregon Coast with my family in our Volvo station wagon we stopped at a gas station on the way. Having been the child of hippie parents, I wasn’t allowed sweets growing up (it had to be organic!). The gas station attendant (it’s illegal to pump your own gas in Oregon… I still struggle with needing to do it myself in Cali.) had a huge amount of Salt Water Taffy that he kept shoving through the windows of our car. My sisters and I thought we were in heaven and frantically shoved as many pieces as we could in our mouths, all the while my mother pleaded for the attendant to stop giving us candy. We left, took off about a mile down the road, and had to pull over immediately… I puked everywhere.
Haven’t been able to eat Salt Water Taffy since then.
2. Going to my father’s friends ranch for a summer picnic bash. All of the men got into a pie-in-the-face fight, and I began crying because I thought they were yelling at each other because they were angry. I still hate yelling.
3. My first album. The Pac-man Album, with full color Pac-man pictures (him running hand in hand with Mrs. Pac-man down the street) creating the art work on either side of the LP. I thought I was sooo cool… probably worth a lot of money now, and I have no idea where it’s at…
4. Growing up my school had annual fairs to raise money. My father gave me some money, and I got to go through the fair by myself (so grown up!)… I had 18 goldfish by the end of the day. Neither of my parents were very excited about it. Over half of them were dead in a week. (the fish, not my parents)
5. My youngest sister C was born when I was 5. My mother took my other sister R, who was 3, and me to go look through the “baby window” to show us who our new sister was. She pointed out C to R and me. R looked in for a moment, and thinking we had our pick at any baby on the other side of the window, asked if we could trade C for the black baby in the bed next to C. R wanted a baby that had hair. It took my mother some time to explain the sitch to R.

I'm not a fan of the yelling, either. I esp. liked #5 :-)
Hope the rest of your week is going better than your Monday.

Thanks.
Yes everything worked out fabulously. I have my wheels back all fixed up and detailed (at no cost to me, including the tow and rental!) and a new phone (most importantly)... and discussed with my roommie about 'waiting until I leave the house' to commence... whatever-it-is-that-i-am-hearing-in-there...
You're a doll!

I thought you would be eager to share stories about your crack-pipe parents...
;)
Yep, I didn't hold a gas hose in my hand until I was almost 23. they looked at me like I was nuts when I said I didn't know how to work it.

I found out about the gas pumpiong law in Oregon at 2:00 AM one morning. I pulled up to the pump - fresh over the border from CA - hopped out of the car to start pumping and was stopped cold by one very tall, very large, very white man. Startled me!
Drove on to Seattle from there. On the return trip, made sure to stop for gas in Oregon before crossing back to CA just because they pump your gas for you!
(I did ask if it was customary to tip - he said it was up to me. I tipped. :-)

You really have an 'A' life.
Ever seen the movie 'Nowhere'?
Reminds me of that.
