Call me Weezy

click on Weezy

Apparently about half a dozen girls now have strep… joyous joyous. It’s all fun and games to play the part of the make-out bandit until someone spreads streptococcus. (heh-heh she said cock...)

As briefly mentioned previously, I had the last minute opportunity to go to Seattle this last weekend. LaLo wanted to get out of town and headed up on Friday, and at 1AM Saturday morning she called and said, “This is unbelievable, I am looking at he Space Needle from my hotel room now. You have to join me!”

So five hours later I was bound for the Pacific Northwest. I always feel so comfortable in Seattle or Portland. I arrived in dreary gray weather, rain pouring down... and I knew I was home.

I met up with LaLo and her friend, Min and the three of us headed to grab some lunch. Vibrant doesn’t even begin to describe the magnificence of the crimson trees lining the street as we pulled up to a boulangerie on Capitol Hill (I hope I have the name of the quartier correct).

I was instantly struck by the completely different atmosphere there. Not bad, just different from the OC life that I at times, ashamedly, have become acclimated to. In the shop, not one of the girls wore make-up. I live in a home where my roommate and her friends don’t go out to exercise without their “full-face” on. (In between their nip and tucks, of course.)

The couple at the next table had a small child, the baby's hand held a spoon as they moved her arm up and down to hit the upside-down bowl in front of her. Obviously preparing her for the years of drum circles that I have no doubt she will be a part of.

Throughout the weekend I was constantly reminded of how different things can be just a plane ride a few hours away. It made me homesick… or rather culture sick. Not that by any means Seattle is an enormous societal melting pot, but it did possess diversity, something I miss and long for.

To be honest with you have had it up to here :hand raised to forehead: with white-upper-middle-the-world-owes-me-something-beause-I-was-born-class. Now I am not saying that one won’t encounter these people wherever they may be… I mean I know people in Portland like this... but to have that be the norm… is stifling.

So I have come to the thought… and nearing a conclusion that it is time to move on… to go elsewhere… to leave this non-reality world of my “Paradise”… where to go is another question.

Beach Chic (she has claimed to want to go too… but she is as flakey as they come… though I LOVE her) and I discussed New York, Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, and (briefly) San Fran… but I need to not live in a place where the Terminator is dictating the laws…

Basically I want to move to a city, NOT another one of these ever sprawling suburbia. I’d like somewhere, anywhere with life, diversity, and conversation.

I was talking to a friend of mine in Seattle the other day… he sad you could look in 2 million women’s closets there and not find one French Maid outfit. I laughed and told him you could look in 2 million women’s heads down here and not find one brain.

So where is the happy medium anywhere? Any suggestions?

Boston sounds like just the ticket for you, OCG.

If you don't want to be near water, how about Denver? (Rapidly turning liberal, I'm led to believe.)

Or what about Manhattan (NY, not Kansas)? If you are going to make the move, might as well make it the big one.

Well, I am originally a california girl, i've been in seattle for almost 4 years, and i'm now planning the move to Boston.

I spent some time in Boston a year ago and LOVED it. I'm going back next month to check out grad school programs and narrow down my neighborhood choices. You should check it out. It's got that big-city feel but is small and easy to navigate.

Oh, and yes, it's Capitol Hill, the best neighborhood in seattle ;)

New York. Definitely, New York. Anything else is half-assed. I firmly believe everyone who can should live in New York for at least a year. There's nowhere else like it.

How about Newcastle, in North East UK?

I'll even clear out the spare room for you.

    ;o))

I love ALL of the suggestions....

I will consider each of them seriously... perhaps a World-Wide-Blover-Tour is in order to properly consider where the next place I should lay my head should be....

    NOT LIKE THAT!
